If you have suddenly found yourself wrapped up in the frenzy of the #DecadeofAction for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and are wondering how to get your business or employees involved, fear not for you are not alone. The momentum for achieving the SDGs in 2030 has most definitely kicked in and more and more initiatives are lauding the power of businesses and the private sector at large to get us to the finish line. To start you and your business on the path to support the SDGs, we have rounded up 5 SDG platforms to help you get your business and employees involved in achieving the SDGs.
For inspiration, head to Business For 2030 : Business For 2030 showcases the initiatives and actions taken by businesses to respond to the SDGs. Here you will find initiatives spearheaded by companies like Pfizer, Walt Disney, Mastercard amongst others. The platform allows you to search for initiatives by company or by SDG and there is a great interactive map that gives you a geographical representation of the initiatives. This is a great place to start if you are wondering which goal best aligns with your business or if you want to know how other businesses are supporting the SDGs.
Set your business up on the SDG Action Manager : Now that you are filled with inspiration, you can get to work with the SDG Action Manager. It is a free (we like free!) simple, online solution designed to help your business set its SDG goals, define action and monitor progress. The best part is its multi-user function which means that your staff can collaborate as a team. Launched in January 2020 it has received a lot of interest from the business world. The application does not have a demo unfortunately but there are webinars organised ever so often to explain the process.
Get you employees involved with IMPACT2030 : If you have heard it once, you have heard it a million times: Success of the SDGs hinges on CO-LLA-BO-RA-TION (inserts clapping emoji after each syllable). IMPACT2030 is doing just that with a focus on SDG 17: Partnership for the goals and supporting businesses to leverage the skills and talents of their employees for global good. Your employees can lead Global Goals workshops and Teach the Global Goals in schools, all in an effort to raise awareness about the goals within their communities. IMPACT2030 provides all the tools and resources to make this possible. This is such a cool way of taking social responsibility further.
Position your company to do Good Business with the UN Global Compact : In a nutshell, the UN Global Compact is about business and sustainability. It is a wealth of resources for companies and businesses looking to incorporate or intensify sustainability practices in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. It epitomises the idea of doing “good business”. You can join the UN Global Compact as a business with 10 or more employees or as a CSO, academic institution or public sector organisation.
Never stop learning with the SDG Academy : It offers free educational resources on the SDGs taught by experts from universities, multilateral global development institutions and governments. Your business and employees will benefit from a wealth of knowledge to enable them to drive your social impact and continue to shape the social positioning of your business. Courses are both self-paced or instructor-paced and quite frankly, you will rather your employee was on the SDG Academy website than on Snapchat.
