We are in good company this World Environment Day with environmentalist John Ssemulema Kasiita sharing his top 5 recommendations to commemorate the day with us.
This year’s World Environment Day is celebrated under the slogan “Only One Earth” and the theme “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature.”
John is a Country Engagement Specialist for Anglophone-Africa at the NDC-Partnership Support Unit. In his role, he supports countries to establish, strengthen and effectively utilize implementation frameworks that enable countries to achieve their climate and development goals. He coordinates technical and financial resources between development partners and developing countries.
Prior to joining the NDC Partnership, John worked for 8+ years on various climate topics. He started his climate career at the UNFCCC Secretariat in Bonn working on adaptation Impacts, Vulnerability and Risks, and later moved on as a technical advisor at the German Development Agency (GIZ) guiding projects on carbon markets, climate finance, international climate policy and renewable energy policy.
John holds an MSc. Environment and Resources Management from Brandenburg University of Technology, Cottbus Germany and a Bsc. Biological Sciences from Makerere University, Uganda. He is a Mandela Washington Fellow of Public Management from University of California, Davis USA.

Silent Spring
By Rachel Carson
Released in 1962, the book started the global grassroots environmental movement. It highlights the negative effects of chemical pesticides on agriculture, a message that remains relevant till today. The message in the book is the importance of the environment to humans and how it should in turn be protected.

The mess we made
By Michelle Lord
This book teaches young readers about the environmental impacts of trash and plastic on marine life. It also inspires children to do their bit in the fight against pollution.
